First mistake was that I hired a business coach who didn’t have a clue about my industry and ended pretty much wasting over $1500 and 3 months of my work. The only thing she did help me is to give me an idea about my branding. My recommendation is that before anything else, please make sure that you interview several business coaches and if they are in your industry, even better. I made a commitment to myself to do a thorough research and follow them for a while and test some of their shorter programs before I finally after 2 years I was happy with my decision, and I stand by it. Actually, next year I am considering doing my mentor’s one year holistic business school program. From the first moment when I got her cd, I knew she will be significant person for me.
Don’t worry if this is all new to you however it is important to grasp few distinctions here first. There is a difference between your niche and your target market. In my case, my niche is helping my clients heal from childhood abuse, trauma, depression, anxiety, chronic stress, and challenging relationships. Your niche basically relates to what kind of problem you can solve for your clients. Clients are not so much interested in your credentials and training, even though they are important, they want to know HOW you will ease their pain, and make their life better.
On the other hand, your target market is your audience. These are your ideal clients. In my case, my target audience are women between 26-55, professionals and business owners, who are interested in health, wellness, and especially integrative and holistic medicine, they are motivated and highly invested in their personal and professional growth, and who don’t take no for an answer. They might be also stay-at-home moms, or women in transition. What they have in common is that they are not interested feeling better by relying on traditional, western approach in medicine that mostly relies on medication management and focusing on the symptoms.
The more you get to know them, the better. Why is this so important? If you know who they are, you will have easier time building a rapport with them. You need to find out what they like to do in their free time, where do they like to hang out, where they shop, and what’s important to them. To be understood is what we all want. Life is stressful so your clients will want to make sure that they are getting the best possible service for the money that they are paying you.
The more clarity you have about your ideal clients the more you can be clear on how to market to them, how to find them, how to create services for them, as well as marketing materials that will “wow” them.
Clarity on your niche and target market is key because it will lead to products and services; the right people easily saying YES to your services, less work because you are targeting specific population, more money, and more JOY and fun. This is what living your life on purpose means. After working on my business now for 4 years my practice is filled with only ideal clients and I love my life! I am passionate about what I do and the biggest reward is to see my clients not only heal, but also blossom because I took time to understand their needs.
