Negative Effects of Popping Pills

Antidepressant Medication Myths debunked. Welcome to my Blog about Antidepressants & their myths. Specifically, I wrote this BlogAntidepressant Medication” so we could discuss various AntiDepressant Myths I’ve come across over the years. Let’s first go back in time. Back in 2000, I was diagnosed with Major Clinical Depression, PTSD, and Generalized Anxiety Disorder.

When I first began my Graduate Studies in Marriage and Family Therapy it was at the University of Miami. The truth is it was also here that I struggled with the minimal results I was achieving with the medications I was being prescribed.

I did try a few antidepressants over the years. However, nothing brought me any long-term relief. Even though depression and anxiety were a result of abuse and significant trauma in my childhood and adolescence. This only partly explained my inability to get any permanent relief. It affected my relationships with others especially the opposite sex.

Medical Alternatives- L-theanine

Over the years I have not been able to find a medical professional who could provide me with an alternative as well as more natural solutions. This is as opposed to taking daily antidepressants. The one exception is Dr. Milana Kaplan who told me about taking L-Theanine for anxiety. She still prescribed Lexapro however for depression.

Antidepressant Medicine Myths- Sex Drive

As a result of taking Antidepressant Medicine, truthfully, I suffered a low sex drive and that is no Antidepressant Medicine myth! I felt nauseous at times. Unfortunately, I also put on over 20 lbs. Until recently I had not been able to keep off this weight gain despite different diet plans and exercise. Truth be told, I even experienced suicidal ideations. Medical doctors’ response was to only prescribe me more medication. One male psychiatrist said that I need to accept that I will have to take medication all my life!

Antidepressant Medication- Lifestyle Myths

What helped me most is changing my lifestyle. This includes doing yoga, having a daily meditation practice, and changing my diet. I didn’t realize the havoc I was causing to my body. This was by consuming supposedly “healthy” soy products, whole grains, and dairy. This is not to mention processed foods! Unfortunately, many times I didn’t have time to cook healthy options.

However, I made it my mission to learn more about natural, alternative, and holistic approaches to treating mood disorders and eliminate the negative from my life. Many of my clients seek my services precisely because they are tired of popping pills to feel better. They seek the truth! This is where Energy Medicine comes in too as well as so many other things. I offer this to you currently on my spiritual path. I’m as you know a huge believer in the effects of Energy Medicine. I believe in an overall holistic approach towards health and a healthy lifestyle. There are so many things you want to get right all at once for the best work-life balance. By the way, is it a shock to you when I say Antidepressant Medicine has negative effects?

Depression Diagnosis- Seeing the light

Finally, in 2014, I started to see the light when I began to learn about the correlation between my constant GI issues and depression. This came about as a result of working with my colleague and health coach, Sandra Tribioli. Since then, I have come across more holistic-oriented doctors and as of this writing, truthfully, I’m doing so much better. This also helped me do away with more Antidepressant Medication myths.

Dr. Blatt- Breakthrough Depression Solution

Today next I want to share what I learned from Dr. Kelly Brogan’s eBook “Change Your Food Heal Your Mood.” In addition to her excellent work, I also highly recommend reading a book by Dr. James Blatt, “Breakthrough Depression Solution.”

She advocates for a functional medicine approach over Antidepressant Medicine to treating depression. This is done basically by changing your diet and thereby healing your gut. This is very exciting to me!

Dr. Brogan- 4 Antidepressant Medication myths

To understand why this is still not common and why medical professionals continue to prescribe medication, you need to be aware of 4 Antidepressant Medication myths that stand in the way, as described by Dr. Kelly Brogan.

1. Depression is caused by a brain imbalance. The truth is that neuroscience hasn’t been able to really explain what a balanced brain looks like. Antidepressants such as Lexapro can be effective to treat symptoms, but don’t heal root causes that caused depression in the first place and instead, they are just masking the symptoms.

2. Antidepressants work. Compared to placebo – sugar pills – in two studies (Khan et al) reported that antidepressants were only 10% better than placebos.

3. Drug companies and the government have your best interest in mind. Drug companies who sponsor studies are really manipulating the science in myriad ways – their first priority is their profit/bottom lane and not patients.

4. That many doctors can’t be wrong. Wrong again. Many practices are outdated and don’t make an effort to educate themselves about new developments in the field. In addition, doctors are dependent on pharmaceutical companies way too much!

Find a Functional Medicine doctor

My advice is to find a doctor that practices functional medicine in your area and even though investment might be costly in the beginning imagine how great would be to finally start feeling better – without spending a fortune on doctors and medication! Gambling Addiction- Client testimonial❤️

“I went to see Mateja for a gambling addiction that I just could not get out of. Not only did she help me beat my addiction, but she has also taught me so much more! Mateja has shown me how to control my anxiety with tapping. The meditation she introduced me to is so calming and relaxing. Her words and knowledge and the tools she gives (that I continue to use on a daily basis) have made me look at the world totally different.

See I did not realize how much I was missing. I have taken control over my own life again thanks to what Mateja has taught me. My life has been changed forever for the BETTER in so many ways.
