Thriving Life Techniques
Victim Roles and Victim Mentality
Exploring Holistic Possibilities
In the “Thriving Life Techniques” Blog you can read about “Victim Roles”. In this particular Blog, we’re exploring how we can heal and overcome the “Victim Role” and the victim mentality. This is a role that we may have adopted due to abuse or trauma in our childhood or any past life events. This is something that affects a significant number of people in our population. We also talk about various Thriving Life Techniques you can incorporate into your life right now.
Thrive in Life- NLP
There are some very effective techniques available to you to aid in your healing journey. Frankly, now after more than 25 years of service with many of these modalities, I’ve developed some vast experience to help my clients with those that suffer from “Victim Mentality“. This is one reason I’m so effective at helping my clients. So much so that fortunately 93% of my clients are discharged after 8-10 sessions. Of course, each person is different.
So I’m excited to take time and talk with you about NLP right now. NLP or Neuro-Linguistic Programming, in my opinion, is one of the top techniques available. It is utilized to gain insight into limiting irrational beliefs in order to make lasting changes. My clients experience great success when I utilize NLP in my sessions. Be sure to ask me about this terrific modality.
In this article, I’m sharing with you some of the proven tips and approaches that have worked for me in my life. As you might imagine it’s very important to have a DAILY practice to follow and I can give you some of mine. I call them my “healthy healing habits”. I notice when I don’t do them, my life gets off track and I suffer in various ways.

In my previous article “Affirmations your Vocabulary Needs” I discussed some tips and techniques from Neuro-Linguistic Programming, which is also known as “NLP”.

Purpose-driven Living- Transform
These steps include (Heal – Transform – Thrive):
1. T – take responsibility for your past, beliefs, roles, and expectations
2. H – honest look at your current limiting beliefs and triggers
3. R- release and forgive
4. I – implement new beliefs
5. V – value new beliefs and practice them often
6. E – embrace life and remain open-minded and flexible
Life Skills- Honesty
The first step in making any change is to take an honest look at your life. You need to take responsibility for your past, as well as your beliefs, roles, and expectations. In order to move on with your life carrying around a “victim role” is not helpful.
The only one that continues to suffer is YOU and in most cases, not the other person who hurt you. It took me many years to realize this. Then when I was able to start taking full responsibility for my life, in spite of the wrongdoings by others, my life started to change for the better!
Releasing and forgiving cannot happen overnight. It takes commitment and in-depth work. Generally, this is only accomplished by a licensed and credentialed professional, as we all have blind spots we just don’t see. Personally, for my growth, I continue to see other professionals when I get stuck.
Victim Roles- New beliefs
If the previous steps occur then possibly you’re ready to implement new beliefs to replace the old worn-out ones. I always advise my clients to question their beliefs for example where do they come from? Are they still valid?
It’s important to realize that progress is not always linear and sometimes you will go two steps back and one step forward. However, the key is to have faith and practice the techniques often and remain flexible.
Meditation- Thriving Life
I’ve been meditating for over 20 years. Over time I’ve created my own daily ritual that works for me. Hopefully, you will find something similar that works for you. The best thing you could do, in my opinion, is finding a way to add meditation to your life. Take your unique circumstances into account & find a way somehow. Be creative if need be but find a way.
Life Technique- Rituals
1. Daily meditation practice – 20 min in the morning and 20 minutes at night. This is a phenomenal thriving life technique. If you are new to meditation, you might start with 5-10 minutes. There are a variety of meditation practices. Just find one that works for you.
2. Gratitude – write down daily what you are grateful for even if it is as simple as being grateful to be healthy and be alive.
3. Use positive affirmations and replace negative thoughts with positive ones
4. Use tapping also known as EFT when you are experiencing negative emotions or if you are in physical pain. It helps me with my headaches.
5. Detach from toxic people that drain you. Many times we outgrow even our closest friends. Seek people who are positive, inspiring, and who are not afraid to take risks to create the life of their dreams.
